Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a collagen material made of synthetic or natural substances and is used for injection in the dermis for purposes of augmenting soft tissues. Recently, dermal fillers have gained significant use in aesthetic functions to clear disturbing skin conditions that normally develop with age. Juvederm ™ is an injected filler treatment that makes use of crystal-clear gel to take care of skin imperfections such as wrinkles and acne scars. As an FDA-approved product, Juvederm is comprised of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid that can be used to treat deep folds, dark under eye circles, enhance the lips and shape the facial features such as the cheeks or chin.

What are the skin conditions that Juvederm can effectively treat? Juvederm is an effective solution in removing wrinkles. As we age, the volume, elasticity and fullness of the skin begin to deteriorate, resulting into unwanted wrinkles and folds. With the use of Juvederm, the skin can have its youthful appearance back. Because the procedure is so effective, patients also opt to use Juvederm on their lips to make them fuller and richer.

What is Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in every living thing. Its job is to fill the gaps between collagen and the elastin fibers in our skin. This essential, all-natural component is found in Juvederm, making it a valuable product for skin regeneration..

How Does Juvederm Work?
Juvederm works by injecting the problem area with small amounts of crystal-clear gel through a very fine needle. The gel then acts directly to fill the wrinkles or folds or enhances the lips. After being injected, the gel can be smoothened or sculpted to attain the attractive, natural looking results. The whole procedure will only take a few minutes depending on the area being injected.

How Long Does The Juvederm Effect Last?
After the treatment, you can instantly see and feel the noticeable difference. You can go back to your normal activities once the procedure is done. The results of Juvederm will last at least six months and up to 12 months. This depends on the area being treated.

Is The Juvederm Injection Procedure Painful?
There is minimal pain involved with Juvederm treatment. A tiny needle is used for the injection, and the new Juvederm syringes comes with built-in anesthetic (lidocaine) inside the syringe, which works to numb the skin quickly as the product is injected.
To make the procedure as painless as possible local anesthetic cream or ice packs can be used to numb the area to be treated.

Possible Side Effects
Side effects, if they occur are usually temporary and mild to moderate, and are typically linked to the injections e.g. pain on injection, bruising, redness, swelling etc. Typically resolution is spontaneous, within one or two days after injection into the skin, and within a week after injection into the lips.

Sculptra™ is an injectable volumising treatment that stimulates the build up of the body's own collagen to smooth out lines and wrinkles and restore lost facial volume to give you a fuller, younger-looking face.

We use Sculptra™ for both young and older patients. It is an excellent treatment for building up cheek bones in younger patients and for filling in areas of lost volume, often in the cheeks of patients who have suddenly lost a lot of weight, or have simply lost some of the superficial layer of fat in the skin, which is part of the natural ageing process.

Sculptra® works differently from traditional fillers. It’s a unique collagen replenishing treatment that helps to gradually and subtly reduce lines, wrinkles and folds. By helping to replenish your own facial collagen and restore lost volume, it can give you a fuller, more natural look that can last for up to 25 months.

Collagen is the substance your body produces to give your skin a firm and youthful appearance. But from an early age the amount you produce slows down andfacial volume is lost. Sculptra® can redress the balance and help you achieve the natural look you want, to reflect how you feel.

Over time, skin loses its full, firm, youthful appearance. This is the result of a natural ageing process: your skin is damaged, becomes thinner, or loses its natural elasticity.
As a result, it becomes loose and starts to wrinkle. Fat tissue, which also helps to fill out your face, is lost, causing skin to sag and further wrinkle. This reduction in skin volume can make your face look thin and narrow, possibly making you appear older than you are.

Fortunately, Sculptra™ may smooth lines/wrinkles and help your skin regain a firm and youthful appearance by restoring skin volume you may have naturally lost.

With Sculptra™, you can restore facial contour and get rid of lines and wrinkles without surgery. Sculptra™ is a synthetic, injectable material that contains skin-smoothing microparticles to help lift and smooth sagging skin, severe wrinkles, creases, dark circles, and scars.

Sculptra™ is injected into the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer and is ideal in particular for: Replacing lost volume caused by ageing / Deep folds and wrinkles /Scars / Volume defects / Contour enhancement.

Does treatment hurt?
As with all injections you will probably feel some discomfort. You may even notice a brief burning sensation at the injection site. Applying an ice pack after treatment will help calm your skin. If necessary your Medical Aesthetics practitioner will also give you a local anaesthetic.

What about afterwards?
Your Medical Aesthetics practitioner will give you special aftercare instructions.
For optimum effects it is important to massage the treatment area twice daily for one month. Inform your practitioner if any side effects occur, for example inflammation or small bumps in the treated area.

What about side effects?
he most common side effects with the use of Sculptra® include bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising or swelling at the site of the injection. These side effects
generally resolve in 2-6 days. One possible delayed side effect can be small bumps under the skin in the treated area. These small bumps may not be visible, and you
may notice them only when you press on the treated skin. As with all procedures that involve an injection through the skin, there is a risk of infection. Any side effects should be reported to your practitioner. Side effects can be avoided or reduced if you ensure you have treatment by someone who has completed the Sculptra® training programme and you follow your proper aftercare tips.
